May 7th, 2010Evidence for Sandy, the Non-Believer
Despite what someone might think, I have all sorts of things that I’m growing, or trying to grow, outside. I’ve discovered that onions and potatoes do pretty well, even with cats, squirrels and birds digging around them. I have a love affair with radishes, because I can almost watch them grow and that amuses me to no end.
There are several dozen flowers being started from seed to fill in the front bed now that the spring bulbs are done and none of the other annuals I planted feel like taking up the slack and making pretty spots of color. I’m currently winning the tomato war against the aphids and in retaliation, they’ve retreated to what’s left of the tulips. The cauliflower and brussels sprouts remain the most boring vegetables in the garden, having shown zero initiative to amuse me by sprouting anything other than a few more leaves here and there since I put them into the ground.
Eric has caught me “petting” the baby parsley leaves and talking to them. This resulted in a strange look where I think he was trying not to laugh.
parsley, watermelon and butternut squash (I hope)
yellow and red onions, radish, carrots, blue potatoes, sage and several things that refused to sprout
more radish, planted a week after the first batch, but bigger by far in the purchased potting mix vs. SFG mix
bachelor’s button
cherry tomato with requisite marigold planted next to it
yellow and red potatoes
strawberries!!
