October 31st, 2007The Winners Are…
Tomorrow, day after tomorrow…close enough
A spin in the handy online random number generator gave me numbers 11 and 2. What the hell, why not give it another spin? Yay, number 9! Jen, Imbrium & Nicole, you are the contest winners! I’ll admit that I’m still spinning up the prizes. I even got a bit crazy and ordered some more roving today. Yes, I was just at SAFF. What’s your point? I’ll let you ladies know when I have a selection to choose from and you can take your pick.
Speaking of SAFF, I definitely had a blast. I’ll give my commentary later (you know, after the spinning wheel review & kitchener rib cast-on tutorial). For now, life is still all about the kitchen. Thanks for all of your supportive comments and emails. I am happy to announce that the kitchen is (almost) DONE!! We got the table I picked out for it delivered today and there’s just a little bit of paint touch up and two cabinet doors left. I LOVE the new kitchen so much. It was definitely worth all the time I wished I could be knitting or spinning.
We’re still working out where everything belongs in the new kitchen. My pot rack came up from the basement, giving me a great deal more cabinet space. I pulled my Elfa shelf with its butcher block top into the middle of the room as a little island and prep area. There’s still plenty of room to navigate even with it there. Yes, the walls around the windows in the alcove are a darker red than the rest of the kitchen.
The dishwasher, along with the range, are getting replaced with stainless appliances to match what we’ve slowly been doing to the rest of the kitchen. I’m finding that I seldom drink coffee anymore. so the coffee maker will probably be hidden out of sight.
A new, smaller microwave! I lose some counter space there, but it’s just the spot where dirty dishes gathered anyway.
There is so much space at the range now that I can actually see it. The sleek, stainless hood is a definite improvement over the giant microwave. Plus, there isn’t a microwave/hood combo built that vents better than even a crappy standalone hood.
The toaster is also rarely used. I think the rice cooker will replace it.
One day, I see a dark marble tile or granite top for the counters; just not now. The next project? Master bathroom.

The kitchen does look tons better! I love the new wall colors. I think dark granite counter tops will look fabulous. My very unsolicited opinion is to go with granite instead of marble. I worked at a granite company for year, and learned a little bit about the rocks. Apparently, marble is a “softer” stone than granite and will easily scratch and discolor from hot pots. Plus, granite is cheaper. But that’s just my opinion. Can’t wait to see the bathroom!

I LOVE the wall color you chose. The white cabinets look great, too.
